Have a drink at both, and you can say you’ve drunk at every pub in town! replete with a collection of classic vehicles stretching back to the model T. The whiskey bar is excellent, rooms are great, free camping, tours, good conversation and more. I would especially recommend getting a party together and booking your accommodation at this level, and hiring a bartender for the intimate little bar tucked away down here as well. The rooms were neat and tidy. He is still working on a few little things, so be ready for that. Within walking distance are all sorts of mining apparatus dotted about the landscape (quite bizarre), old mines, a train-station, furnished miner’s cottage (with backyard dunny and shower), and a museum. The railway hotel has three levels, with accommodation, on the breezy first floor, with its unusual views, but also in a semi-subterranean level that Terry has made quite special and extra fascinating. Ate both lunch and dinner at the hotel and the meals were nice. A little further out is The White Blow, a natural kind of hill-thing made of white marble that you can climb. The food was great, I had special of the day, corned beef and vegie fritters with chips and salad, the boys had the more substantial Imperial Burger, and homemade meat pie.My fritters hit just the right spot and were very tasty, fritters are a favourite of mine. What a magnificent hotel with so much history on show. There is also the area where the Chinese Joss house used to be, and you can still see its foundations and the pig roasting oven that is still there. It is an 80 minute drive with good scenery, and just 30 minutes from the historically magnificent Charters Towers. If you fly into Townsville and hire a car, there are excellent roads (110 speed limit) or tours up there. Yes, it is 0.6 km away from the centre of Ravenswood. We think it is worth another visit and an overnight stay so looking forward to that.
